Phasing Out Coal in Israel
Following the Ministry of Energy’s plan to phase Israel out of polluting fuels, the project to convert coal-fired units to natural gas has begun. By 2025-2026, four units at the Ashkelon Rotenberg power plant (approx. 2,200 MW) and two units at the Hadera Orot Rabin plant (approx. 1,100 MW) will be converted. INGL has completed the connection of the first Rotenberg unit and the gas transmission system link for the 70 and 80 combined-cycle units (approx. 1,260 MW) at Orot Rabin, replacing coal units 1-4.
PRMS Conversion: Rotenberg 1
On November 20, 2019, the Energy Minister set guidelines to convert Rotenberg coal units 1-4. Starting with unit 1, the switch from coal to natural gas at Rotenberg marks a key step in Israel’s transition to cleaner energy. INGL is proud to support this global shift towards clean energy, benefiting industries and national infrastructure. The complex infrastructure project, connecting Ashkelon to Israel’s gas grid, required meticulous planning, adherence to strict international safety standards, and 24/7 operations using advanced logistics and technology to meet demand from day one.
